Picasso painted Still Life with a Bottle of Rum during summer time of 1911 in Céret, the tiny city in French Pyrenees which was so favored by poets, artists, and artists-especially the Cubists-before World War I it has been called the "spiritual home of Cubism."

A person is hard-pressed to understand container of rum indicated within the name for this work, which was painted during the most abstract phase of Cubism, referred to as "high" Analytic Cubism (1910-12). Inside top center associated with the photo are just what be seemingly the neck and orifice of a bottle. Some spidery black colored lines to the left of it might denote sheet songs, and round shape reduce, the beds base of a glass. When you look at the center, during the far correct, is the pointed spout of a porrón (Spanish wine bottle). It is one of the primary works for which Picasso included letter types. It is often suggested your ones shown at remaining, LETR, refer to Le Torero, the mag for bullfighting fans-Picasso becoming certainly one of them-but they could simply be a pun on lettre, French for "word."
