This is an interesting early painting of the sailing brigg Mary and Agnes. These ships were used as cargo carriers and would often be grounded on the sea shore and then unloaded at low tide, the cattle seen to the right of the vessel may have just been unloaded. A busy painting with lots of interest and warm colours. The Syer family had at least three well known artists this painting is most likely by James who exhibited at the Royal Academy. Signed lower left.
